The plenary session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change will be held in Sofia from 26 July to 2 August

On May 10, 2024, the President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, met with the Secretary of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) - Mr. Abdallah Mokssit, Mr. Julian Popov and his team from the Ministry of Environment and Water, in connection with the upcoming IPCC Plenary Session which will bring to Sofia over 400 participants from 150 countries. The working meeting was attended by Prof. Denitsa Borisova (Scientific Secretary of the Climate Change, Hazards and Natural Resources Division) and Assoc. Prof. Ina Aneva (Scientific Secretary of Biodiversity, Bioresources and Ecology Division) who would actively contribute to the involvement of BAS scientists in the work of the IPCC.

The building of BAS in the LUNAR Festival of Lights – 2024

For the third consecutive year, some of the most popular buildings and urban spaces in Sofia were transformed by 3D mapping and light installations within the third edition of the LUNAR Festival of Lights - 2024. For the first year, the Central Building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was included in the programme of the festival which took place from 9 to 12 May. The first hydrogen fuelling station for Bulgaria and the region opens today

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, attended today the opening of the first hydrogen fuelling station for Bulgaria and the region. It is part of the infrastructure of the "Integrated Energy Systems" Field Laboratory of the "HITMOBIL" Centre of Competence and marks the beginning of hydrogen electric mobility in the country. In the construction of the facility, the main contractors are the DELECTRA, AQUACHIM and MONBAT companies. The hydrogen fuelling station, made by the Austrian company EDC-ANLAGENTECHNIK, has fuelling capabilities at the two standard pressures for compressed hydrogen - 350 and 700 bar. BERON is the first Bulgarian digital dictionary

The Bulgarian Language Resources Online platform BERON was presented today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The digitized version of the Official Spelling Dictionary of the Bulgarian Language is its first product in which words are voiced with their correct pronunciation. A wealth of information has been added on the grammatical features of the words, on the doublets and homonyms in the literary language. Prof. Dr. Ruska Stancheva from the Institute for Bulgarian Language of BAS (IBL-BAS) is the leader and initiator of the BERON project. The content is developed by linguists from the Modern Bulgarian Language Section of IBL-BAS and includes about 2 400 000 forms. Earliest evidence of cinnabar use 5000 years ago

A significant discovery was made during the rescue archaeological excavations of a burial mound in the village of Kriva Bara, Vratsa region. The excavations were financed by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum under a contract with Bulgartransgaz EAD for the preservation of the archaeological heritage during the construction of a gas pipeline connecting the underground gas storage Chiren with the existing gas transmission network. They were conducted under the supervision of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stefan Alexandrov (NAIM - BAS).
