The priorities in the programme of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences for the term 2024-2028 were presented by the President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, at a meeting held in the meeting hall of the Burgas Municipality today. The Regional Academic Center (RAC) of BAS and the Burgas Chamber of Commerce and Industry were the organizers of the event.
One of the main priorities is to support and expand the role of the Regional Academic Centres, said the President of BAS. “The campaign is under the title “BAS is visiting the regions” and the goal is to grow into “BAS is present in the regions“, noted Corr. Memb. Slavcheva and said that her confidence was that only with very active contacts between science and business on the spot, the scientists of the Academy could be really useful for the economy of the country.
The mayor of Burgas Dimitar Nikolov shared his wish that science should not be concentrated only in the capital but should have its development in the regions.
Among the priorities is the one for the promotion of the renovated infrastructure, the achievements of scientists, the importance of scientific research for the social and economic development, Corr. Memb. Slavcheva said. She also noted that the implementation of the projects for the continuation of the support of the Centres of Excellence and Centres of Competence under the Research, Innovation and Digitalisation Programme was of paramount importance. BAS will continue to contribute to solving problems of public importance by using the expertise of its scientists, she said.
During the meeting, a presentation was made by the Scientific Secretary-General of BAS Prof. Neli Koseva. She focused on the importance of the cooperation between BAS and the business for the development of a more modern and innovative Bulgaria. Prof. Koseva showed the newest platform for cooperation with business which had been prepared by the Joint Innovation Center of BAS. It includes a virtual demonstration centre with BAS products and technologies, a registry with the Academy’s intellectual property and a virtual business incubator for start-up companies. The platform is part of BAS activities under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
At a meeting of women from science and business in Burgas which took place later in the day, the President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva gave a lecture on “The role of women scientists from BAS for the spiritual and technological development of Bulgaria“. “The contribution of BAS to the development of the national scientific research and innovation system” was presented by the Scientific Secretary-General Prof. Neli Koseva.
The Regional Governor of Burgas Prof. Maria Neykova, the coordinator of RAC-BAS Burgas Prof. Sevdalina Turmanova and the coordinator of the National Academic Network Corr. Memb. Alexandre Kostov were among the guests of the event.
