The President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva met with the Ambassador of India to Bulgaria H.E. Mr. Arun Kumar Sahu. The Ambassador noted the dynamic development of science in India and stressed the need to establish a contractual framework for cooperation between BAS and scientific organizations in India which would contribute to strengthening the ties between the scientific communities of the two countries. The meeting, which took place at BAS on 30.04 this year, also discussed the opportunities for training of PhD students from India in the scientific units of BAS and holding events jointly with the Embassy of India. The identified areas of interest for collaboration are broadly: biotechnology, agro-biotechnology, pharmacology, aerospace, informatics, etc. For this purpose, the meeting decided to prepare a cooperation agreement between BAS and the Ministry of Science and Technology of India under which specific partnerships between our and Indian institutes would be sought.
The meeting was also attended by the Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov. He expressed the hope that the cultural exchange between India and Bulgaria, or at least our knowledge of each other, would come closer to the levels of interest and interaction of the pre-1989 period. It was also proposed to exchange lecturers to present the heritage and traditions of Bulgaria in India as well as Indian professors in our country.
