The participation of scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the Horizon Europe Framework Programme has been discussed at a meeting at the Academy by the President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva and the Commissioner for Start-ups, Research and Innovation Ekaterina Zaharieva.

The meeting, which took place today, was attended by BAS Scientific Secretary-General Prof. Neli Koseva and the Head of the European Commission Representation in Bulgaria Yordanka Chobanova.

Bulgaria has made progress in the field of hydrogen technology, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva said during the conversation. The President of BAS presented her idea to initiate an international regional project for the introduction of hydrogen fuel in heavy transport and told about the first hydrogen charging station for Bulgaria and the region which marked the beginning of hydrogen mobility in the country. The need for a common state policy in the field of hydrogen technology was discussed.

The activities of the Centres of Competence and of Excellence have significantly improved the working environment at the Academy, Corr. Memb. Slavcheva said and added that modern equipment supported the research of scientists. Corr. Memb. Slavcheva invited the Bulgarian Commissioner to visit the institutes of BAS to get acquainted with the scientific achievements at the Academy.

During the meeting, emphasis was placed on stimulating young people to choose the profession of researcher as well as the relationship of science with business. In June, the now traditional meeting organised by BAS, “Science for Business”, will take place.

Scientific Secretary-General Prof. Neli Koseva presented the activities of the Joint Innovation Centre of BAS and the projects in the field of green technologies and digitalization which aimed to reach a high level of technological readiness.
