The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov has opened today the Fifth Annual Scientific Conference of the Centre of Excellence “Heritage BG” in his capacity as R&D Coordinator of the eponymous project for the construction and development of the CoE. The conference is held in the Egg Hall of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” on 17 and 18 June. “Heritage BG” is the only such center that has an annual scientific conference and its own periodical publication,” Prof. Moutafov said at the opening.
For the fifth consecutive year, the representatives of the partners in the only centre of excellence that is in the field of humanities will also hold fruitful discussions – a basis for intra-project collaborations and ideas for improving the environment in which cultural heritage is safeguarded.
The two-day conference brings together researchers and academics representing the partners in the Heritage BG consortium. As it has already become a tradition, the participation in the conference of lecturers from “Vasil Levski” National Sports Academy who deal with the problems of healthy lifestyle, wellness therapy, apitherapeutic heritage, etc., is especially massive.
However, the focus of the presented novel research quests will be on solving cultural and natural heritage problems. In these modules of the conference, scientists from several institutes of BAS – the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography, the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with the Ethnographic Museum, the Institute for Literature and the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy are participating. The insights of historians from the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre for Thracology-BAS who will present their new findings and theoretical developments on the second day of the conference are expected to be of particular interest. Noteworthy are the intriguing topics chosen by some colleagues, such as beer in antiquity, the role of healing springs – ayazmas, the church council as a trial, dissonant cultural heritage, etc.
Papers that are submitted on time and successfully pass the anonymous peer-review procedure are published in the periodical of the CoE “Bulletin Heritage BG – Research Announcements” which is available in its entirety at https://www.nasledstvo.bg/en/research-announcements/issues/
