The “Secrets and Mysteries of Heraclea Sintica – a journey in time” exhibition of the History Museum – Petrich is presented within the framework of the “Olympus” festival which is held in the Greek town of Dion. At the 54th edition of the forum which started in June and will last until August 28, Bulgaria is an honorary partner and presents its rich cultural heritage.

Prof. Lyudmil Vagalinski from the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of BAS, who is the head of the archaeological team exploring Herakleia Sintica, gave a lecture at the opening. In the presentation “Heraclea Sintica: a Contribution to the History of Ancient Macedonia,” he presented the latest findings from the ancient city.

The exhibition is innovative and has a clear social focus. The presented artifacts are accessible also to the blind – visitors have the opportunity to touch and feel them, and the exhibition also includes inscriptions in Braille. All the models in the exhibition have been digitised through 3D scanning. Short animated videos have been created to accompany them, accessible via a special QR code. The aim of the travelling exhibition is to foster long-term collaborations with universities, teachers and students. Its international presentation will culminate in a visit to the European Parliament in Brussels, from 2 to 5 December 2025, where a large-scale and extensive presentation of Heraclea Sintica will take place.

The Olympus Festival is the largest cultural event in the region of Pieria and Northern Greece. The Bulgarian program is organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Bulgaria in Thessaloniki with the assistance of the municipalities of Karlovo, Plovdiv and Petrich.
