The Institute of Balkan Studies & Center of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBSCT-BAS) held a scientific conference with international participation on the “Cultural Heritage in the Digital Age” theme. It was organized on 30 July at the “Acad. Ivan Geshov” Hall of BAS.

The sessions of the conference were devoted to cultural heritage as an online resource and to the past, present and future of encyclopaedias. The programme of the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure (Inframat) demonstrates brilliant mutual cooperation between scientists working in the field of cultural, social and natural sciences, Prof. Neli Koseva said.

Acad. Ilza Pajeva, head of the Bulgarian Encyclopaedia project; Prof. Vessela Tsakova, Chief Coordinator of the Consortium for Modern Research Infrastructure in Support of Science, Culture and Technological Development, part of the INFRAMAT National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure; Prof. Harry Verwayen, General Director of the Europeana Foundation; Kiril Valchev, Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA); scientists from different units of BAS: IBSCT, Institute of Physical Chemistry, National Archaeological Institute with Museum, the “Bulgarian Encyclopaedia” Scientific Centre, Institute of Information and Communication Technologies; from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski were among the participants in the forum.

The presentations and discussions covered a wide range of topics on the place of science and scientists in providing reliable information online for educational and research purposes, as well as for the general public.

The conference is in implementation of the INFRAMAT National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure with the financial support of the Ministry of Education and Science.
