The 17th International Congress of Slavists is taking place between 25 and 30 August 2025 at the Sorbonne, Paris. Scientists from different units of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences are participating in the programme of this important scientific event. The names of doyens of medieval studies such as professors Svetlina Nikolova (Cyrillo-Methodian Research Centre-CMRC), Anissava Miltenova (Institute for Literature-IL), Lora Taseva (Institute of Balkan Studies & Center of Thracology), Elissaveta Mousakova (Institute of Art Studies) and others stand out among them. Another generation of researchers such as Prof. Maria Kitanova (Institute for Bulgarian Language-IBL), Prof. Rumyana Damyanova (IL), Prof. Luchia Antonova-Vasileva (IBL), Prof. Vladimir Penchev (Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Studies with Ethnographic Museum) are also represented. The participation of younger scholars from BAS, such as Assoc. Prof. Nikoleta Patova (IL), Assoc. Prof. Ekaterina Todorova (IL), Sen. Asst. Prof. Andriana Spasova (IL), and even PhD students from BAS such as Marta Riparante (CMRC) makes an impression. The young colleague’s paper is entitled “Digital methods in Slavic palaeography: Bulgarian scribal practices in the 14th century”. Her presentation has included new case studies related to 14th century scribes and the application of digital tools such as the “Repertorium of South Slavonic Manuscripts and Copyists (10th–14th c.)” online database and the “Cyrillic Palaeography Toolkit” open source software aimed at palaeographic analysis and digital presentation of manuscript heritage.

Within the thematic block entitled “New Challenges of Slavic Palaeography”, the “Development of the Cyrillic alphabet from the 9th to the 14th century in the South Slavonic lands: research and digital presentation” project of the Cyrillo-Methodian Research Centre at BAS, implemented in partnership with the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics – BAS and funded by the National Science Fund of the Republic of Bulgaria, was presented.
