The Institute of Information and Communication Technologies has started work on the second phase of the Centre of Excellence in Informatics and Information and Communication Technologies.
The consortium includes: the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies – BAS (lead organization), the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics – BAS, the Institute of Mechanics – BAS, the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography – BAS, the Medical University – Sofia, the “Paisii Hilendarski” University of Plovdiv, the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies and the non-profit Association Center of Excellence in Informatics and ICT.
The overall activity of the project is aimed at the development of a scientific research complex to solve problems of high scientific and societal importance.
The Centre aims to further develop the established scientific research complex, where scientific and applied research is conducted in accordance with the best global standards and practices, with a well-defined organisational structure and research agenda. The state-of-the-art infrastructure for digital transformation is crucial for the successful work. A balanced approach will be implemented in maintaining and upgrading the Data Centre with the Hemus supercomputer and the 3D Digitisation and Microstructural Analysis Laboratory.
An important objective at this stage is to further develop the capacity for innovation and accelerate the transfer of the obtained applied research results into societally relevant applications and innovations. Training and advisory services for the use of the Centre’s infrastructure will be developed and provided to address the support needs of less developed regions. Regional and sectoral coverage of joint projects and initiatives will be built upon.
The project is implemented under BG16RFPR002-1.014-0018-C01 contract under the “Sustainable development of Centres of Excellence and Centres of Competence, including specific infrastructures or their clusters from the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure” grant procedure No BG16RFPR002-1.014.
