The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov participated in the inauguration of the second stage of the “Heritage BG” Centre of Excellence project. The event was held at the Egg of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” which is the lead organization of the project. There are a total of 13 partners in the Centre, including six institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
“During the first seven years of the project, a lot of scientific work was done. More than 30 monographs were published, many scientific articles were written, some of which were published in prestigious journals. We held two prestigious and boutique international seminars – on ancient numismatics and Byzantine epigraphy in which even a Japanese PhD student participated. This raised the value of “Heritage BG” CoE and the level of world scholarship. Together, we have succeeded in making this Centre of Excellence the most visible and the most meaningful because it is the only one with an annual scientific conference and a periodical: “Heritage BG – Research Announcements”, the Vice-President of BAS said. He congratulated the participants in the project on behalf of the Presidium of BAS and wished them success in upholding the traditions already established.
The head of the “Heritage BG” project, Acad. Ivan Ilchev, presented the main results of the first stage of the project. The meeting was attended by the Rector of SU “St. Kliment Ohridski”, Prof. Georgi Valchev, Ms. Stefka Pileva-Malinovska from the Verification Directorate of the Ministry of Education and Science, as well as representatives of the thirteen partner organizations.
The “Heritage BG” Centre of Excellence is funded under the grant procedure “Sustainable development of Centres of Excellence and Centres of Competence, including specific infrastructures or their clusters from the National Roadmap for Research Infrastructure”.
