The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has awarded the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions in Bulgaria (FSTU) with the “Honorary Plaquette GOLD”. The award is for the overall contribution of FSTU in the development, promotion and support of scientific and technical achievements and on the occasion of its 140th anniversary. The plaquette has been presented on behalf of the Academy’s leadership by Prof. Ivan Georgiev, Scientific Secretary of the “Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies” Division.
The solemn celebration of the 140th anniversary of the Federation was held today at the National House of Science and Technology in the presence of the President of the National Assembly, Assoc. Prof. Nataliya Kiselova, members and veterans of the Federation, representatives of the scientific community and international organizations.
“140 years of existence in historical terms is a truly respectable period in the development of any organization,” the address on behalf of the President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, read. “The creators and artists of different generations in science, design, construction and industry can be proud of what they have achieved over the years,” it added.
The publication “Brief History of the Federation of Scientific and Technical Unions in Bulgaria” authored by Acad. Vassil Sgurev, Sasho Gergov and Gencho Ivanov was presented on the occasion of the celebration. Acad. Vassil Sgurev from the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members of BAS was the President of the organization in the period 2001-2012. Nineteen national unions and 31 territorial organizations are members of FSTU.
During the celebration, the Chairman of FSTU Assoc. Prof. Kremena Dedelyanova presented a jubilee plaquette to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
