The “Unification – 140 Years Later” documentary film was presented at an academic event held on October 2 at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The film is based on a script by Dimitar Stoyanovich and directed by Lachezar Avramov.
The academic event was opened by the Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov. “In the spring, BAS professors Milko Palangurski and Peter Stoyanovich, in collaboration with Prof. Veselin Yanchev from SU “St. Kliment Ohridski”, published the “Three Viewpoints on the Unification in 1885″. Both the book and the presentation enjoyed wide interest not only from the historical college but also from a wider audience,” Prof. Moutafov said in his speech. He recalled that on the eve of September 6 this year, the monograph of Assoc. Prof. Aleka Strezova from the Institute for Historical Studies “Unification. The Diplomatic Battle for Bulgaria” had been published. “The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has taken the decision to honour this dignified anniversary with a work of art from where the competent opinion of those in the know about the events of the early autumn of 1885 can be heard as well as to see how the personalities and actions of that time are viewed in our eyes,” the Vice-President of BAS also said.
The event at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was attended by the Minister and Deputy Minister of Education and Science Krassimir Valchev and Natalia Mihalevska, Mr. Simeon Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, Bishop Gerasim from the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the academic community such as Acad. N. Sabotinov, artists of the rank of Haygashod Agasyan, Bogdana Karadocheva, Stefan Dimitrov, Malin Krastev and citizens.
“The film conveys the important messages in which we should educate children,” Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev said and congratulated the authors. He added that the right way to present the film to Bulgarian students and their peers studying Bulgarian language in Sunday schools abroad was yet to be found.
