The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, visited the University of Osaka and met with the Dean of the School of Foreign Languages Prof. Sayo Tsutsui. The meeting, which took place on 7 October, was attended by Prof. Masaaki Shimizu, Head of the Foreign Studies Division, Prof. Dr. Katsumi Fujiwara, Head of the Russian Language Department, Ivo Vladimirov, Lecturer in Bulgarian, Old Bulgarian and Balkan Studies, and five students studying Bulgarian at the Faculty.
During the discussion, held in the Momiji Lounge, Dean Tsutsui highlighted the success of the Bulgarian Language and Balkan Studies courses offered at the School of Foreign Languages. Corr. Memb. Slavcheva said that she would continue to support the University and deepen exchanges with it. The students spoke in Bulgarian about their motivation to begin studying the language, their future goals, and about preparing a play in Bulgarian which would be the first play in a language other than the main language at the School of Foreign Studies.
