The President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, presented the honorary plaquette of BAS GOLD to Acad. Ivan Ivanov, Editor-in-Chief of the “Journal of BAS”. The distinction is awarded on the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the journal for its overall contribution to the spiritual growth of the Bulgarian people, popularization of the achievements of Bulgarian scientists, the problems of Bulgarian science and the development of scientific life at BAS and around the world.
“During these long years, many important figures and great Bulgarians have worked for the “Journal of BAS”; they have worked to preserve the legacy of Marin Drinov, namely through this journal to literate the Bulgarian people, to spread Bulgarian science abroad and to reflect the achievements of Bulgarian scientists.” With these words, the President of BAS presented the award at a ceremony attended by former editors-in-chief and current members of the editorial board of the journal, members of AACM and the director of “Prof. Marin Drinov” Academic Publishing House. The first edition of the “Periodical Journal”, published in Braila in 1870, was shown at the event. It is kept in the Central Library of BAS. The editor-in-chief Acad. Ivan Ivanov thanked for the award on behalf of the team, and the Honorary Editor-in-Chief, Acad. Yachko Ivanov, announced that the journal had readers abroad.
Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, as the Chairman of the Publishing Council of BAS, also congratulated the Editorial Board for the award. “The work of your predecessors is gigantic, and you bear it with dignity. May you find relevant successors to keep this publication alive,” Prof. Moutafov said.
A certificate of appreciation was also awarded to the long-standing editor of the “Journal of BAS”, Ms Sonia Slavova, for her contribution
The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences celebrated 155 years since the publishing of the first issue of the “Periodical Journal of the Bulgarian Learned Society” with an exhibition and an academic speech at the solemn assembly on the occasion of the 156th anniversary of the founding of the Academy on 13.10.
