The President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, participated in the official opening of a conference of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences (ICMS) at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The event featured presentations of the Center’s new research groups led by world-renowned scientists in various fields of contemporary fundamental and applied mathematics.

The director of ICMC Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, opened the conference and presented the Center’s activities from its establishment in 2019 to the present. He expressed his gratitude for the support of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and the Simons Foundation.

The President of BAS congratulated the conference participants. “We are very proud of what the scientists at the International Center for Mathematical Sciences are doing. The inspiring idea of Acad. Blagovest Sendov and Acad. Julian Revalski to establish the center took many years and the efforts of many people,” Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva said. She wished the scientists continued inspiration for young mathematicians to work in Bulgaria as well as to establish even stronger ties with the mathematical community around the world.

The event at the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics of BAS was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Acad. Nikolay Vitanov, Prof. Andrey Tchorbanov, Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education and Science, Prof. Yuri Tschinkel, Director of Mathematics & Physical Sciences at the Simons Foundation, and leading mathematicians from Bulgaria and abroad.
