On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the founding of “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse, a series of events were held between November 10 and 12, 2025. The motto of the celebrations in Ruse was “80 years facing knowledge, youth, and the future.”
Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, Vice-President of BAS, took part in the solemn assembly-concert. He presented the Rector of the university, Assoc. Prof. Desislava Atanasova, with a congratulatory address on behalf of Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, President of BAS. It reads: “Ruse University is an example of academic excellence, innovation, and commitment to the development of the regional economy, science, and society. You have created a powerful educational community that brings together talented students, researchers, and teachers who share a desire for knowledge and progress. Your contribution to scientific research, technology transfer, and international cooperation is invaluable and deserves the highest praise.”
As a result of the fruitful cooperation and on the occasion of the anniversary, the leadership of the Academy awarded an honorary plaquette of BAS – gold to “Angel Kanchev” University of Ruse. It was presented by Prof. Moutafov at the meeting-concert in the Kaneff Center. In his speech, the Vice-President of BAS mentioned: “Ruse is located on the site of the old Roman limes which once separated civilization from the barbarian world. With the founding of a university in such a place, a bridge has been built between ignorance and knowledge but its functioning has also been an attempt to preserve the intellectual potential of the region. BAS supports education in the country and values local traditions which you have been convincingly defending for 80 years.”
