At a ceremony in Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Dr. Angel Zlatkov from the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was awarded the “Danubius” Young Scientist Award of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research of the Republic of Austria and the Institute for Danube Region and Central Europe.
Introduced in 2014, the “Danubius” Award seeks to highlight the scientific work and talent of young researchers and enhance the visibility of the scientific community in the region. Moreover, the award encourages young scientists to engage in the scientific research of the multifaceted issues and questions specifically related to the Danube Region.
Angel Zlatkov is part of the team working on the research projects of the Institute of Balkan Studies & Center for Thracology “Rediscovery, Preservation, and Promotion of Cultural and Historical Heritage in Eastern Macedonia” funded by the European Union through the Next Generation EU programme (NextGenerationEU BG-RRP-2.015-0010-C01) and “Growing but not getting old: semantic and 3D technologies for the history of streets and buildings in Sofia” funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund. During the official ceremony, he expressed his conviction that knowledge of the past holds the power to build bridges between the Balkan peoples and states, thereby contributing to the overcoming of historical traumas, the deepening of regional integration, and the inclusion of the Western Balkan countries into the European Union. Dr. Zlatkov expressed his gratitude to the team of the Institute of Balkan Studies & Centre of Thracology for their support and inspiration.
