An international scientific conference with the participation of scientists from Spain, Romania, Lithuania, Turkey, Italy, Portugal, North Macedonia, and Bulgaria was held at the Economic Research Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. This is a traditional event for economists at BAS, focusing on topical issues at national, regional, European, and global level related to the challenges facing Bulgaria, EU integration, financial, demographic, and social policies, regional and sectoral development, the economy of modern companies, etc.
This year’s conference is entitled: “Economic Development and Policies: Realities and Prospects. Sustainability in the Context of Global Change.” It was opened by Prof. Irena Zareva, Director of ERI at BAS, and the Executive Director of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange, Assoc. Prof. Manyu Moravenov, welcomed the participants. The plenary report “On the Eve of the Euro: Fiscal Sustainability and Medium-Term Prospects for Bulgaria’s Economic Development” was delivered by Prof. Victor Yotsov from ERI at BAS who outlined several scenarios for Bulgaria after the adoption of the euro next year.
The discussions took place in four thematic panels. The first was devoted to new realities and international policies from the perspective of geoeconomics, integration, and sustainability; the second to the sustainable development of regions and sectors; and the third to the adaptability and sustainability of enterprises. In the fourth panel, participants discussed the macroeconomic and social dimensions of sustainable development.
