During the annual scientific session of the Institute of Mechanics on December 5, the award ceremony for “Best Young Scientist in the Field of Mechanics – 2025” took place. The award was established ten years ago by the National Committee on Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (NCTAM) at BAS at the proposal of Academician Yachko Ivanov and is funded by him. It is awarded through a competition organized by the Institute of Mechanics of BAS and aims to stimulate and promote the achievements of young researchers up to 35 years of age working in various fields of mechanics in scientific organizations and universities in Bulgaria.

Acad. Yachko Ivanov presented Eng. Pavel Venev, MA with the 2025 award at an official ceremony. Pavel Venev is an assistant professor at the Institute of Mechanics. He received the award for his significant contribution to the field of biomechanics and robotic systems for human assistance. Over the past three years, his work has focused on the development, control, and experimental validation of pneumatically powered exoskeletons. He is also co-author of a patent for a system for non-invasive electrical stimulation of acupuncture points. His achievements demonstrate not only in-depth knowledge in the field of mechanics and automation, but also a strong focus on applied research with the potential to improve the quality of life of people with physical challenges.

Acad. Yachko Ivanov emphasized the importance of scientific research in all areas of mechanics and the role of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Mechanics as a leading center for fundamental and targeted fundamental research as well as for solving complex problems arising from industry and society. He wished the young researcher to continue on his path with perseverance and an innovative spirit.
