The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences awarded Academician Rumen Pankov with the “Marin Drinov” Honorary Medal on ribbon. The award ceremony took place today at the Academy during a meeting of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members (AACM). The award was presented by the President of BAS, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva.
Acad. Rumen Pankov received the award for his outstanding scientific achievements, his rich long-standing teaching and administrative experience, and on the occasion of his anniversary. Acad. Pankov’s main interests are in the field of cellular and molecular biology, said the Vice-President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva who presented his scientific work. He is a long-time lecturer at the Faculty of Biology of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Acad. Rumen Pankov is a specialist in the field of stem cells and leads a team that has created the first Bulgarian lines of embryonic stem cells. His book is a standard textbook for every student. His scientific output is impressive, Corr. Memb. Pasheva emphasized – over 10,000 citations and 110 articles in elite journals. He has created a school in the field of cell biology, the Vice-President said, noting that his scientific and administrative career was impressive.
I accept this award with immense gratitude and appreciation, Acad. Pankov said, emphasizing that this was also an acknowledgment of all his colleagues with whom he had worked.
During the meeting, certificates were presented to academicians and corresponding members of the Academy on the occasion of their anniversaries.
