On January 9, participants in the project “What is written remains. Write correctly!” held two language quizzes at the invitation of the Faculty of Slavic Philology and the Faculty of History of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. Students majoring in Bulgarian Philology, History, and History and Geography answered questions in the fields of etymology, semantics, and transformations. Three teams of ten people each competed in each quiz. With the historians, the “Vazrozhdentsi” (Revivalists) team won while the “Sinigeri” (Tits) team won with the philologists. The audience also had the opportunity to answer entertaining questions in the fields of Bulgarian dialectology, Old Bulgarian language, etymology, and computational linguistics.
Students from all majors demonstrated not only excellent knowledge and linguistic skills, but also their analytical thinking abilities. Short films were screened to promote the work in the scientific fields in which the Institute is engaged: contemporary Bulgarian language, dialectology, history of the Bulgarian language, onomastics, terminology, and computational linguistics. The issues addressed by the Bulgarian Lexicology and Lexicography Department, the Ethnolinguistics Department, and the Bulgarian Etymology Department were presented by hosts Kalina Micheva and Svetlozara Leseva.
Congratulations were extended by Assoc. Prof. Vladislav Milanov (main host of the event), Prof. Mira Markova, Dean of the Faculty of History at Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” Prof. Gergana Dacheva, Head of the Bulgarian Language Department at the Faculty of Slavic Philology of Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski,” and Prof. Svetla Koeva, Director of the “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin” Institute for Bulgarian Language.
