The Governing Council of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences awarded Prof. Dr. Emil Manoach from the Institute of Mechanics of BAS with the “Marin Drinov” Honorary Medal. The award was presented by the President of the Academy, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, at an official ceremony.

The Honorary Medal was awarded to Prof. Manoach for his multifaceted scientific, project and organizational activities for the development of Bulgarian science, and mathematics and mechanics in Bulgaria in particular, and on the occasion of his 70th anniversary. He thanked the Governing Council, the leadership of BAS and the scientific council of the Institute of Mechanics for the prestigious award and noted that he accepted it not only as a personal recognition but also as a high assessment of the work of the scientists at the institute.

Prof. Manoach’s main scientific interests are in the field of mechanics of deformable solids. He has 80 scientific publications, is a member of the editorial boards of several journals and is extremely active in project work. He is the leader and participant in dozens of national and international contracts funded by the EC, NATO, the Royal Society, and the U.S. National Science Foundation and has long-standing and fruitful collaborations with foreign scientists from Poland, Portugal, the UK, the US, and China. He has been director of the Institute of Mechanics of BAS and scientific secretary of the Academy for the division of “Information and Communication Technologies”.

Evdokia Pasheva and Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, the director of the Institute of Mechanics Prof. Svetoslav Nikolov, the chairman of the Scientific Council Prof. Nikolay Vitanov, and the scientific secretary Assoc. Prof. Sabina Cherneva attended the ceremony at BAS.
