On March 30, the book „Историята на изкуството като призвание. Сборник в чест на чл.-кор. проф. д.изк. Иванка Гергова по повод на нейната 70-годишнина“ (Art History as a Vocation: a collection in honor of Corr. Memb. Prof. Ivanka Gergova, DSc, on the occasion of her 70th birthday) published with the support of the Ministry of Culture under the “Book Aid” program was presented at the San Stefano Gallery in Sofia. A welcoming address was delivered by the director of the Institute of Art Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Prof. Joanna Spassova-Dikova, PhD, who highlighted the significance of the scientific work of Prof. Gergova, her great contribution to the study of Bulgaria’s artistic heritage, and emphasized the meaning of the publication as a liber amicorum, in other words, a book composed of texts by colleagues and like-minded scholars as an act of high recognition of the distinguished scholar’s research work.
Assoc. Prof. Margarita Kuyumdzhieva who moderated the event gave a detailed presentation of the initiative and the team responsible for compiling the collection in honor of one of Bulgaria’s most distinguished art historians, noting that the volume serves as a testament to the vitality of a small, yet close-knit academic community that not only strives to meet the recently imposed demands for public visibility but also to preserve and develop the quality of the research it conducts and the books it publishes. Prof. Maria Yovcheva, PhD, from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” presented the publication in detail, devoting special attention to each of the articles included in the collection and outlining the main thematic areas of the research.
The event drew considerable interest and brought together representatives of the academic community, cultural institutions, and a wide range of admirers – a well-deserved tribute to Prof. Ivanka Gergova and her contribution to the development of the humanities in Bulgaria.
