The international scientific conference “Mathematical Quantum Field Theory,” held in memory of the renowned Bulgarian theoretical and mathematical physicist Academician Ivan Todorov (1933–2025), is taking place in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall at BAS through May 30. The President of the Academy, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, opened the forum and emphasized in her remarks that Ivan Todorov became the youngest academician in Bulgaria. Among the speakers are a number of world-renowned physicists and mathematicians, she said. Acad. Todorov is a scientist with tremendous achievements and worldwide recognition in the field of modern theoretical physics – particle theory, high-energy physics as well as the mathematical foundations of physics. Throughout his long scientific career, he engaged in numerous fruitful collaborations with renowned mathematicians and mathematical physicists from around the world.

Prof. Dimitar Tonev, Director of the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy at BAS, and Prof Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, who is also Director of the International Center for Mathematical Sciences, addressed the forum participants. In addition to Acad. Todorov’s remarkable scientific achievements which have received international recognition, they emphasized that through his example, Acad. Todorov had inspired many young people to find their calling in science. For many years, Academician Ivan Todorov had been lecturing to undergraduate and graduate students on various topics in the field of theoretical physics. His students have worked and continue to work successfully in Bulgaria, as well as at world-renowned research centers and universities abroad.

The “Mathematical Quantum Field Theory” conference aims to cover a wide range of contemporary topics of interest to both physics and mathematics, as well as to bring together close collaborators of Acad. Ivan Todorov and scientists whose research has been significantly influenced by him.
