The 16th National Conference of Doctoral Students, Postdoctoral Researchers, and Young Scholars in the Field of Legal Science was held on June 6. The forum was organized by the Institute for the State and Law of BAS (ISL-BAS). Director Prof. Ekaterina Salkova, PhD, opened the event and encouraged participants to be bold in their scientific pursuits and responsible in formulating and defending their theses.

Forty doctoral and postdoctoral students from ISL-BAS, Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski” and the University of National and World Economy presented their papers. The young legal scholars addressed a wide range of issues spanning nearly all major branches of law. The audience found the presentations on Roman law just as interesting as those seeking answers to the challenges posed by the introduction of artificial intelligence in law enforcement, or examining the mechanisms for resolving international space disputes. Conference participants expressed their views on contentious and controversially resolved issues regarding which interpretative cases have currently been initiated by the Supreme Court of Cassation (Interpretative Case No. 3/2025, SCC, General Assembly of the Civil and Commercial Colleges, and Interpretative Case No. 4/2025, SCC, General Assembly of the Civil College).

The lively discussions following each of the four modules demonstrated the keen interest in the presentations. Forum participants voted via an anonymous survey and selected the presentation by PhD candidate Krasen Vulev from ILS-BAS on the topic “Bad-faith exercise of procedural rights in interim relief proceedings” as the most interesting.
