Representatives of the Academy and Dr. Martin Venhart, President of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, discussed today at BAS the participation of scientists of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in major European projects and the successful collaboration with the business community. “I am impressed by the ‘Science for Business’ forum,” said Dr. Venhart, adding that he would like to organize a similar event in Slovakia.
The President of BAS, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, presented the work of Bulgarian researchers at the centers of competence and centers of excellence, where scientists from the Academy successfully collaborated with colleagues from universities. During the discussion, the participation of teams from BAS and SAS in the five joint projects being carried out during the 2025–2026 period was also presented. Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, Vice-President of BAS, proposed expanding cooperation between the two academies in the field of Slavic studies.
Other topics discussed included the training of doctoral students, research funding, and participation in scientific forums.
The program for the visit of the president of the Slovak Academy of Sciences included visits to the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy and the “Mechatronics and Clean Technologies” National Center of Excellence.
The IRT-2000 research reactor – an important part of the scientific infrastructure and history of INRNE – BAS – aroused particular interest. Prof. Venhart was briefed on its role in the development of nuclear research and the training of generations of specialists.
Prof. Martin Venhart is a renowned nuclear physicist with many years of scientific experience and the president of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. He is one of the leading experts in the field of nuclear structure and experimental nuclear physics and actively participates in a number of international scientific programs and research projects.
