In July 2026, the “Clean&Circle” Center of Competence and the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Center for Phytochemistry of BAS hosted a series of events dedicated to scientific exchange, innovation, and the practical application of scientific research.
On July 1, a scientific seminar was held in the Center’s new building, attended by Bulgarian and Polish scientists, doctoral students, and undergraduates from Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski.” Guest lecturer Dr. Ruslana Mazurenko from the Polish Academy of Sciences presented research on nanoscale carbon materials for polymer composites with electromagnetic shielding applicable in high technology, automotive engineering, medicine, and the defense industry.
Prof. Dr. Boyko Tsyntsarski of the Institute of Organic Chemistry with Center of Phytochemistry (IOCCP–BAS) presented an environmentally friendly technology for converting waste biomass into carbon-based materials for use in the circular economy. The seminar concluded with questions and a discussion on the practical implementation of the presented developments.
On July 6, the Center hosted a meeting dedicated to the possibilities for scientific results to reach the business sector. The guest speaker was Prof. Dr. Kostadin Kostadinov from the GIS-Transfer Center Foundation – an expert in the fields of robotics, innovation, and technology transfer. Participants discussed mechanisms for cooperation between research organizations and industry as well as opportunities for transforming scientific ideas into real products and technologies.
From July 13–16, Prof. Dr. Christian Betzel from the University of Hamburg, Germany, was a guest of “Clean&Circle” and IOCCP–BAS. He delivered a lecture on modern methods and research in the field of protein crystallography to the Center’s partners from Sofia University and scientists from the Institute of Mineralogy and Crystallography at BAS.
Prof. Betzel also visited the Institute of Mineralogy and Crystallography where he familiarized himself with the modern scientific infrastructure, ongoing projects, and achievements of Bulgarian researchers.
The events held reaffirmed the role of the “Clean&Circle” Center of Competence as a platform for international scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the development of innovations with potential for application in business and the circular economy.
