The yellow cobblestones are one of Sofia’s most recognisable symbols. The area around the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, the Royal Palace, the City Garden and Prince Alexander I Square form the historic heart of the capital. Every weekend in August, Tsar Osvoboditel Boulevard will be pedestrianised and transformed into a space for strolling, socialising and urban life. The National Ethnographic Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IEFSEM-BAS) is delighted to join this initiative. In 2026, the museum will celebrate its 120th anniversary – a significant occasion that will be marked by a series of events and special initiatives.
As part of the festive programme, every weekend in August, between 10.00 and 12.00, the museum will be open to all residents and visitors to the capital, with completely free admission. Under the slogan “120 years – 120 minutes at NEM”, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in Bulgaria’s rich cultural and historical heritage, discover the unique exhibits and experience an unforgettable journey through time.
The traffic restriction will apply to the section between “Knyaz Alexander I” Street and “Vasil Levski” Boulevard and will be in force only at weekends: from 6.00 am on Saturday until 10.00 pm on Sunday.
