From 13 to 18 September, the 24th International School on Nuclear Physics, Neutron Physics and Applications was held in Nessebar. The event was organised by the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy – BAS, with the support of the Bulgarian National Science Fund, Kozloduy NPP EAD, “Kozloduy NPP – New Capacity” and the State Enterprise “Radioactive Waste”.
This edition of the School was attended by eminent scientists from leading scientific organisations and universities around the world, as well as young physicists and researchers from various countries, including Bulgaria, Italy, France, Germany, China, Japan, South Korea, Romania and others. The scientific programme covered a wide range of topical issues in the fields of nuclear physics, neutron physics and their applications.
The latest research findings in the fields of nuclear structure, exotic nuclei, chirality in nuclei, nuclear reactions, and theoretical models and approaches for describing nuclear systems were presented. Topics discussed also included modern experimental methods and detector systems, including research into detectors, radiation fields, nuclear fuel, nuclear safety and the monitoring of nuclear facilities. Results relating to the application of nuclear physics in medicine were also presented, including the production of medical radionuclides and diagnostic imaging methods in oncology.
The School provided an opportunity for scientific exchange and discussions on current issues in nuclear physics and its applications, and encouraged the active involvement of the younger generation of scientists in the international scientific community.
The conference provided an opportunity for INRNE-BAS to forge new collaborations with leading scientific organisations in the field of nuclear physics and its applications in industry and medicine.
Prime Minister Rumen Radev also expressed his support for the School in a special address to the organisers and participants.
