The first hydrogen electric car in Bulgaria is registered in the name of IEES-BAS

Information on the development of CoC "HITMOBIL" was presented at a press conference The registration of the first hydrogen electric car in Bulgaria is already a fact and its owner is IEES-BAS. The Hyundai Nexo electric vehicle has been purchased under a public procurement procedure for the supply and warranty support of an electric vehicle with hydrogen fuel cells required for the establishment/upgrading of the research infrastructure of Laboratory 5: "HIT for Energy Storage and Electromobility" - part of the HITMOBIL Centre of Competence project. European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel visited BAS

On the occasion of 24 May in the European Parliament BAS and European Commissioner Mariya Gabriel will present an exhibition on Paisius of Hilendar and the book "Bulgarian Alphabets" The European Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth Mariya Gabriel met on 30 March at BAS with the President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of BAS. Meeting with Elsevier representatives at BAS

A meeting of scientists from the chemical institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences with Dr. Sergey Varnavskiy, Business Development Manager for Southern Europe, Asia and Türkiye at Elsevier and Mr. Vladimir Danailov, Regional Director for Eastern Europe at Elsevier was held on 22.03.2023 at the "Ivan Evstratiev Geshov" Hall. At the meeting the possibilities of the Reaxys database in the field of chemical sciences were presented. The opportunities that Elsevier provides to support research in Bulgaria and their perspectives were also discussed.

World Water Day 22 March and World Meteorological Day 23 March

The World Water Day on March 22 and the World Meteorological Day on March 23 were celebrated by representatives of academia, government institutions, business and education at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The celebration is an initiative of the Climate, Atmosphere and Water Research Institute of BAS (CAWRI-BAS), the Bulgarian Water Association (BWA) and with the support of the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works (MRDPW). Every year on 22 March, the world celebrates World Water Day. The Assembly of Academicians of BAS elected foreign member of BAS and associate members of AACM

The Assembly of Academicians of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences elected as a foreign member of BAS Prof. Konstantinos Georgiou Nihoritis from Greece. He is a distinguished Greek Old Bulgarian scholar and theologian with numerous publications on Bulgarian cultural history and its links with Athos. He is a graduate of the Athonias Ecclesiastical Academy (1976) and the Sofia Theological Academy (1981). He is currently a professor at the Faculty of Slavonic, Balkan and Oriental Studies at the Macedonian University of Thessaloniki. More information about Prof. Nihoritis can be seen here. Neurotechnology research project launched

A new experimental laboratory at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IICT) will be established under the "VIBraTE" project, funded by the Horizon Europe programme. This was announced by Assoc. Prof. Dimiter Prodanov who presented the planned activities of the project and gave a lecture at BAS on the perspectives of neurotechnologies. The "VIBraTE" project has started in February 2023 and will last until 31 January 2028. The Director of IICT Corr. Mem. Svetozar Margenov, who opened the event, specified that so far in Bulgaria such an innovative project had not been implemented. Assoc.
