Scientists present BAS projects under the Recovery and Resilience Plan

Scientists from BAS presented projects in the field of green and digital technologies during the visit of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Innovation and Growth Tomislav Donchev to four institutes of the Academy today. The funding is worth about three million leva and is under the Recovery and Resilience Facility. At the Institute of Robotics, the Deputy Prime Minister got acquainted with the construction of the national infrastructure for quantum communication, a route of which was being implemented within the framework of the National Plan. “Cultural Heritage in the Digital Age” scientific conference held at BAS

The Institute of Balkan Studies & Center of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IBSCT-BAS) held a scientific conference with international participation on the "Cultural Heritage in the Digital Age" theme. It was organized on 30 July at the "Acad. Ivan Geshov" Hall of BAS. The sessions of the conference were devoted to cultural heritage as an online resource and to the past, present and future of encyclopaedias. Six medals for Bulgaria from the 66th International Mathematical Olympiad in Australia

  The Bulgarian team after the award ceremony The 66th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO 2025) was held from 10 to 20 July 2025, hosted by Sunshine Coast, Australia. A record 630 students from 110 countries participated in the most prestigious and oldest mathematics competition. The competition days were 15 and 16 July, with 3 problems to be solved, scored out of 7 points each, in 4 and a half hours. The problem coordination took place on 17 and 18 July and the closing ceremony on 19 July. The Bulgarian team consisted of 6 competitors. A scholar studies the history of Bulgarians in French archives

Corresponding member Ivan Rusev is studying data from French archives related to the history of Bulgarians in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. The research is being conducted in Paris with the financial support of the French government, after winning a competition under the programme "Séjour scientifique de haut niveau - Chercheurs confirmés" ("Scientific stay at high level – experienced researchers"). The work of Corr. Memb. Rusev is mainly related to documents in the French Diplomatic Archives in Courneuve, widely known as the archives of "Quai d'Orsay" and the archives of the Ministry of Defence in Vincennes. Four medals for Bulgaria at the International Biology Olympiad

  The Bulgarian students have won four medals - two silver and two bronze from the International Biology Olympiad (IBO). The Olympiad was held from 20 to 27 July in the Philippines. The silver medals were won by Dimitar Oronov (XI grade, National High School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics - NHSNSM) and Stoyan Dobrev (XII grade, NHSNSM). The bronze awards went to Martin Zamfirov (XII grade, NHSNSM) and Boyan Tsenov (XI grade, NHSNSM). Their supervisors have been Prof. Dr. Albena Jordanova (Medical Faculty, SU "St. Kliment Ohridski"), Sen. Asst. Prof. Dr. Radoslav Aleksandrov (Institute of Molecular Biology of BAS) and PhD student Teodor Trifonov (Institute of Biodiversity and Ecosystem Research of BAS).
