The Institute of Oceanology – BAS celebrates the World Ocean Day

The Institute of Oceanology - BAS organized an educational event in the Sea Garden of Burgas on the occasion of the World Ocean Day on 8 June. The initiative brought together scientists, children, students and nature lovers at the Flora Exposition Centre. The message of the event was related to the need for a responsible attitude towards the oceans - the key to the future of our planet. Visitors had the opportunity to get acquainted with modern oceanographic instruments used by scientists in their research as well as to see under the microscope and through preparations a small part of the living world of the Black Sea. Science and Technology Fair – curiosity is the engine of knowledge

The Institute of Solid State Physics - BAS and Science Me Up organized a science and technology fair on June 7 at the Scientific Complex 2 of BAS. The event attracted the attention of more than 1500 visitors - schoolchildren, parents, students, teachers, researchers and friends. They participated in lectures, lab visits and pupil hands-on workshops. The organizers of the event - Assoc. Prof. Ekaterina Iordanova, Director of the Institute of Solid State Physics at BAS, and Mr. Yavor Kiryakov, Manager of Science Me Up, congratulated the participants of the Science Fair. Scientists from Shanghai Jiao Tong University visit BAS

A delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University visited the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences on June 5. The university is among the most prestigious higher education institutions in China as well as among the top 100 universities in the world, specializing in the teaching and development of engineering and STEM. The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov presented the main directions of the Academy's activities and the current mechanisms for the implementation of bilateral cooperation. The successful projects and initiatives between scientists from both countries were discussed by Prof. Denitsa Borisova and Prof. Ventzeslav Dimitrov from the Space Research and Technology Institute and Prof. Petar Nojarov from the Climate, Atmosphere and Water Research Institute. Public lecture by Dr. Atanas Popov on the Euratom Community

A public lecture by Dr. Atanas Popov, a specialist in European law, was held today at BAS. Dr. Atanas Popov introduced the audience to the history of the European Communities, focusing on the sociological and legal aspects of nuclear energy regulation in a comparative national and international context. The existence and activities of the European Atomic Energy Community are not widely known despite the enormous current interest in nuclear energy. Bulgaria is one of the Euratom member countries that intends to increase its nuclear investments. The lecture explained in a broader sense the functioning and sociological aspects of this part of European law in view of the growing challenges in the field which were mostly of an economic nature. Acad. Ilchev lectures on the history of the Balkan peoples in China

Academician Ivan Ilchev, Head of the “Heritage BG” Centre of Excellence, was on a working visit to China from 18 to 30 May at the invitation of Capital Normal University in Beijing and Beijing Foreign Studies University. Acad. Ilchev delivered a series of five lectures on the history of the Balkan peoples for students and PhD students and discussed the possibilities of deepening cooperation with the Center for the Study of Civilizations at Capital Normal University. GOLDEN Honorary plaquette for Krasimira Stoyanova

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences presented a GOLDEN honorary plaquette to Krasimira Stoyanova, former interim Minister of Transport and Communications. The award was presented by the President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, for her significant contribution to the process of naming Sofia Airport after Vasil Levski. The ceremony which took place at the Academy today was attended by Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS (President of the Academy - 2016-2024) and Corr. Memb. Atanas Semov. For many years, scientists and public figures have been trying to make this change which proved impossible without people like you.
