Two researchers from BAS with awards “For Women in Science”

Dr. Nikoleta Kircheva and Dr. Rosita Kokotanekova from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences were awarded among more than 30 candidates who participated in the competition of the national programme "For Women in Science". The awards were presented at a ceremony at Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski”. Dr. Nikoleta Kircheva is a senior assistant professor at the Institute of Optical Materials and Technologies (IOMT) and a member of the Computational Chemistry and Molecular Modelling group. Her winning project is in the field of chemistry and is entitled "Development of alternative antibiotic therapy with a focus on metals with antibacterial activity: Ag+/Ga3+/Ga-PPIX as an innovative treatment". BAS honoured the Institute of Experimental Morphology, Pathology and Anthropology with Museum with an honorary plaquette on the occasion of its 70th anniversary

The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences honoured the Institute of Experimental Morphology, Pathology and Anthropology with a Museum (IEMPAM) with a GOLDEN honorary plaquette at a solemn ceremony held at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall. The award is for outstanding contributions to scientific and applied research in the field of experimental morphology and pathology, anthropology and museum studies. On behalf of the leadership of the Academy, the Vice-President Corr. Memb. Evdokiya Pasheva presented the plaquette to the Director of the Institute Prof. Dr. Svetlozara Petkova. A delegation from BAS visited CERN

A delegation from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, led by the President Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of BAS, visited from 22 to 24 November the European Organization for Nuclear Research CERN in Geneva. The delegation included Prof. Neli Koseva - Scientific Secretary-General of BAS, Assoc. Prof. Ivan Georgiev - Scientific Secretary of the “Information and Communication Sciences and Technologies” division of BAS and Prof. Dimitar Tonev - Director of the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy. The share of the supranational identity of Bulgarian citizens is growing but national identity remains the leading one

These are the results of a nationally representative survey conducted by scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences The contemporary identity of Bulgarian citizens is hybrid in nature, combining elements of national, supranational, ethnic and local identity. The share of identification with supranational structures is growing, with 30.8% of respondents perceiving themselves as "EU citizen". This is shown by the results of a nationally representative survey conducted by scientists from BAS within the research project "National and European Dimensions of the Contemporary Identity of Bulgarians", funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund. The leading place, with the largest share of 84.7%, is occupied by the national identity but its identification coordinates are changing. Solemn celebration of the 75th anniversary of the Institute for Literature

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, presented a GOLDEN honorary plaquette to the Director of the Institute for Literature Assoc. Prof. Penka Vatova on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of founding of the Institute. The celebration was held today at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of the Academy. The Institute for Literature has established itself as one of the most important research centers of literature in Bulgaria. A young scientist of BAS with an award from the German Physical Society

Dr. Daniela Doneva from the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy has been awarded the Gustav Hertz Young Scientist Award of the German Physical Society for 2024. Dr. Doneva's scientific developments are in the field of cosmology. Her research is devoted to the study of black holes and neutron stars in generalized scalar-tensor theories of gravitation. Dr. Doneva acquired the scientific and educational degree "Doctor" at the Faculty of Physics of Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" under the supervision of Corr. Memb. Stoycho Yazadzhiev. Since 2012, she has been working at the University of Tübingen, Germany. She was awarded a Humboldt Fellowship for the period 2012-2015 and participated in the Margarete von Wrangell Habilitation Programme (2015-2018). In 2018, she won the Pythagoras Grand Prize [...]
