Prof. Garo Mardirosian – Inventor of the Year – 2023

  Prof. Garo Mardirosian from the Space Research and Technologies Institute (SRTI) of BAS was awarded the "Inventor of the Year - 2023" prize of the Union of Inventors in Bulgaria. He received the prestigious award for 4 inventions in the field of protection from disasters and accidents, two of which were for critical infrastructure: the "Kinematic System for Early Warning of Earthquakes for Critical Infrastructure Facilities" and the " Early Warning about Floods along River Beds near Artificial Lakes Barrages ". Scientists of BAS with awards for high scientific achievements

  Three scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences received the "Marin Drinov" honorary medal on a ribbon at a solemn assembly on the occasion of the National Enlighteners Day. The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, presented the awards. Prof. Pepka Boyadjieva received the award for high scientific achievements in the field of sociology of education. Prof. Vladko Murdarov was awarded for his significant contributions in the field of Bulgarian and Slavic linguistics. Scientific Conference “Turkish Modernity – Political, Social and Cultural Dimensions of the XIX-XX Centuries”

On 30 and 31 October 2023, the Institute of Balkan Studies and Center of Thracology - BAS held a scientific conference on "Turkish Modernity - Political, Social and Cultural Dimensions of the XIX-XX Centuries". The occasion for the event was the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey on 29 October 1923. In the scientific forum, 17 scholars- presented reports from the Institute of Balkan Studies-BAS, the Institute of Historical Studies-BAS, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski, Plovdiv University, ULSIT and other scientific institutions. Topics related to the Ottoman modernization, the birth of the modern Turkish state, political, migratory and cultural processes in the history and modernity of the modern Turkish state were discussed. Agreement on Scientific Cooperation between the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Academy of Sciences of Albania

The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences Prof. Julian Revalski, Member of the Academy, and the President of the Academy of Sciences of Albania Academician Skënder Gjinushi signed today at BAS an agreement on scientific cooperation between the two academies. The document provides for the participation of researchers in joint projects, conferences, as well as the exchange of scientists. A delegation from the Academy of Sciences of Albania is on a four-day visit to Sofia. The program of the scientists included a meeting with the Prime Minister Acad. Nikolai Denkov. New publication with participation of a Bulgarian scientist in “Astronomy & Astrophysics”

  Sen. Asst. Prof. Yanko Nikolov, PhD from IA with NAO is a lead researcher in an international team Research conducted with the 2-m telescope at NAO Rozhen with lead researcher Sen. Asst. Prof. Yanko Nikolov, PhD, from the Institute of Astronomy with National Astronomical Observatory, tracked the eruption of the symbiotic star RS Oph as a nova on August 8, 2021. Astronomers from Bulgaria, Argentina and the USA have participated in the study. The results have been accepted for publication in the prestigious scientific journal Astronomy & Astrophysics and can be found with open access at: https://arxiv.org/abs/2309.11288. HAPPY 90TH ANNIVERSARY OF ACADEMICIAN IVAN TODOROV!

Acad. Ivan Todorov is one of the world's most eminent Bulgarian scientists - physicists. He is known for his contributions to mathematical physics, in particular quantum field theory. He has made significant contributions in the field of Axiomatic Quantum Field Theory and two-dimensional conformal theories and is among the founders of the school of mathematical physics in Bulgaria which has gained recognition in scientific circles. Professor at the Institute for Nuclear Research and Nuclear Energy (INRNE) and Corresponding Member of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since 1967. Elected Academician - in 1974 (at the age of 40 - the youngest academician in Bulgaria then). Acad.
