Conference “Genome Structure and Function”

The ,,Roumen Tsanev'' Institute of Molecular Biology at BAS, Rice University (USA) and Institut Curie (France) are the organisers of the fifth international conference "Structure and Function of the Genome" https://genome2023.imb.bas.bg/ which takes place from June 5 to 8, 2023 in Sofia. The conference is attended by more than 170 participants – both world-renowned scientists from the USA and Europe as well as many young researchers from around the world. 60 years “Acad. Emil Djakov” Institute of Electronics

The "Acad. Emil Djakov" Institute of Electronics (IE) received an honorary plaquette - GOLD at a solemn assembly on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the founding of the Institute. The award is for excellence in the field of materials science, nanosciences, quantum optics, biomedical photonics. International conference on stellar research takes place in Sofia

International conference on "Stellar variability, stellar multiplicity" with the participation of 50 scientists from 15 European countries within the project "COST Action #18104 MW-GAIA: Revealing the Milky Way with Gaia” takes place at Sofia Tech Park from 6 to 8 June 2023. The Institute of Astronomy with NAO at BAS is hosting the event with representatives of the scientific community from Italy, Spain, France, Greece, Czech Republic, Poland, as well as from the USA and Chile. 100 years since the birth of Academician Jordan Malinowski

A session dedicated to the life and scientific achievements of Academician Jordan Malinowski was held on June 6 at the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The event was held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great Bulgarian scientist and physical chemist, who is also the patron of the Institute of Optical Materials and Technologies (IOMT-BAS). Acad. Malinowski is one of the most distinguished scientists in the field of physical chemistry, with a contribution to the study of photographic processes, said in his speech the President of BAS Acad. Exhibition “Cajal, 170 years”

An exhibition "Cajal, 170 years", dedicated to the Spanish Nobel laureate Santiago Ramon y Cajal, was opened today at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition is on the occasion of the 170th anniversary of the birth of the Spanish scientist and the 90th anniversary of the opening of the Cajal Institute. Santiago Ramon y Cajal is considered the founder of neuroscience for his discoveries about the mechanisms that govern the morphology and connecting processes of nerve cells. This exhibition tells the story of Cajal's remarkable life, his great contributions and dedication to science. National conference on “shadow economy” was held at BAS

On 02.06.2023 the Social Survey Research Center and the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of BAS held a national conference on "Factor Determination of the "Shadow Economy" in the Perceptions of Bulgarian Society: Empirical Study, Results, Interpretations and Policy Recommendations". The Forum was held under a project funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund. The study is a fundamental research project which presented the results and analytical products of the research carried out in the period 2020-2023. Participants' reports presented different aspects of the "shadow economy". A Shadow Economy Tolerance Index (SETI) was calculated for the first time in Bulgaria. This index gives an idea of the relative share of "shadow practices" in Bulgaria and was specifically designed for the purpose of the project. [...]
