Highlights from the upcoming exhibition “Bulgarian Archaeology 2024” presented by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum

Finds from two of the most emblematic archaeological sites in 2024: the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica near the locality of Rupite and Mound 1 in the village of Kapitan Petko Voyvoda, Topolovgrad municipality, were presented to journalists by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NAIM at BAS) at a press conference. The "Bulgarian Archaeology" exhibition is traditionally organized by NAIM-BAS on the occasion of the Day of the Archaeologist on February 14 and presents the best of the previous archaeological season. Study of magnetic activity in a giant star due to planetary engulfment – the most significant scientific achievement of IA with NAO for 2024

"Astronomy & Astrophysics” publishes the results of an international team of scientists with leading Bulgarian participation The Institute of Astronomy with the NAO-BAS has identified the study of magnetic activity in the red giant star RZ from the constellation Aries (RZ Ari) due to the engulfment of a planet as its most significant scientific achievement for 2024. The results obtained by the team with Bulgarian lead researcher Prof. Dr. Renada Konstantinova-Antova and four other Bulgarian scientists were published in the prestigious European journal "Astronomy & Astrophysics" 681, A36, 2024. In addition to the five Bulgarians, the team includes researchers from France, USA, Brazil and Chile. Visit of the Minister of Education and Science to BAS

The funding of the Academy's activities and research was discussed at a meeting at BAS by the President Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, the Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev and Deputy Minister Acad. Nikolay Vitanov. The participation of scientists from the Academy in national scientific programs and as lecturers in Bulgarian universities were also among the topics of the discussion. The President of BAS briefed the Minister on the priorities in her programme for managing the Academy. The meeting was held immediately after a meeting of the General Assembly of BAS to elect three Vice-Presidents and a Scientific Secretary-General.

New Vice-Presidents and Scientific Secretary-General of BAS

The General Assembly of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences today has elected new Vice-Presidents and Scientific Secretary-General of BAS. There are three Vice-Presidents – Corr. Memb. DSc. Evdokia Pasheva, Prof. DSc Emmanuel Moutafov and Prof. DSc Shtelian Shterionov. Prof. Dr. Neli Koseva has been elected Scientific Secretary-General. The election of the new leadership of BAS was held by the General Assembly, after Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva was elected President on December 2, 2024. The colleagues are established scientists with extensive administrative experience; I am convinced of their indisputable qualities, contributions and loyalty to the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corr. Participation of BAS at the prestigious international “Future Minerals Forum” in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 14 to 16 January, hosted the fourth edition of the Future Minerals Forum - one of the most important conferences for the mining industry, setting global priorities and trends not only in the mining and processing industry but also in the world economy. The Honorary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium H.E. Philippe Beke with a lecture at BAS

On 17.01.2025, the Honorary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Belgium in Sofia - H.E. Philippe Beke presented a lecture on "Leadership in Environmental Responsibility, Social Commitment and Efficient Governance as a Marker of the EU in Global Affairs" at BAS. The event was organised by the Centre for National Security and Defence Research (CNSDR) at BAS. The Director of CNSDR Kamen Iliev opened the meeting and gave the floor to the Vice President of BAS – Corr. Memb. Prof. Stefan Hadjitodorov for a welcome speech on behalf of the Leadership of the Academy.
