BAS with an award from the Bulgarian Red Cross

On the occasion of the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, at an official ceremony today in the building of the National Council of the Bulgarian Red Cross, BAS was awarded with the Honorary Badge of Humanity - Henry Dunant of the Bulgarian Red Cross and a Diploma for the organized donation campaign by the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members of BAS (AACM) in support of the National Campaign of the Bulgarian Red Cross in support of the victims of the conflict in Ukraine. The Chairman of the BRC Mr. Hristo Grigorov presented the award to Acad. Damyan Damyanov – Vice-President of AACM. Prof. Erhard Hinrichs with a Badge of Honour “FOR MERITS TO BAS”

Prof. Erhard Hinrichs from the University of Tübingen, Germany, has been awarded with a badge of honour "FOR MERITS TO BAS". The award was presented to him today in “Prof. Marin Drinov" Hall of BAS by the Scientific Secretary-General of the Academy Prof. Neli Koseva. The prize is awarded for the contribution of Prof. Hinrichs to asserting BAS as a leading centre in the field of language resources and technologies. The ceremony took place during the official opening of the second international CLaDA-BG conference - Language Technologies and Digital Humanities: Resources and Applications 2023 which is taking place from 10 to 12 May.

The economists of BAS: higher-than-usual inflation and low growth rates expected by 2025

  A higher inflation rate compared to the average for the EU member states and a low probability of meeting the Maastricht inflation criterion, on which our accession to the euro area by 2025 depends, predict the researchers from the Economic Research Institute at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Mainly, the reasons for this are caused by external factors - high energy prices and the military conflict in Ukraine but we should not exclude some controversial decisions in the field of economic policy, such as the implementation of measures that do not take into account the real financial capabilities of the country, lack of political consensus on important issues for the country, etc. This is stated in the macroeconomic forecast of the economists of BAS [...]

Honorary medal “FOR MERITS TO BAS” for Prof. Raytcho Lazarov

  The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, awarded an honorary medal "FOR MERITS TO BAS" to Prof. Raytcho Lazarov. The Governing Board of the Academy awarded the distinction to Prof. Lazarov for his contribution to the modern development of scientific research in the field of numerical methods and algorithms at BAS. Raytcho Lazarov is a world-renowned scientist in the field of mathematics and computer science, Professor Emeritus at Texas A&M University. He has published highly acclaimed and cited joint papers with scientists from the Institute of Mathematics and Informatics and the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of BAS.  

Conference on Constantine of Preslav’s Uchitel’noe evangelie (‘Didactic Gospel’)

On 25-27 April 2023, an International Scientific Conference "Constantine of Preslav’s Uchitel’noe Evangelie and the South Slavonic Homiletic Texts (IX-XIII century): Philological and Interdisciplinary Aspects" was held in Sofia. The scientific forum was organized by the Institute of Balkan Studies with Center of Thracology at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences within the project "The Vocabulary of Constantine of Preslav's Uchitel'noe evangelie ('Didactic Gospel'): Old Bulgarian-Greek and Greek-Old Bulgarian Word Indices", funded by the Bulgarian National Science Fund (contract No. KP-06-H50/2). Partner in the event was the Regional History Museum - Sofia. Thirty-five distinguished scientists from Bulgaria, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and the Czech Republic, as well as some young researchers from Bulgaria, Austria and Croatia, participated with papers. Over 100 scholars gathered at the International Conference of the Institute for Art Studies of BAS “Art Studies Readings”

The traditional international conference of the Institute for Art Studies of BAS "Art Studies Readings" was held in two modules - from 20 to 22 April the scholars from the "Old Art" module presented their research, and from 27 to 29 April - from the "New Art". The event was supported by the Bulgarian National Science Fund and the Ministry of Education and Science. The theme of the conference this year is "Metamorphoses". The event was held under the sign of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of Art Studies (IAS).
