Highest state awards for Acad. Sabotinov and Acad. Popchev

Acad. Nikola Sabotinov and Acad. Ivan Popchev were honored on the eve of 24 May with the highest state awards. President Rumen Radev awarded Acad. Nikola Sabotinov with the Order of “St. Cyril and Methodius" - necklace for his particularly significant merits in the field of science. Acad. Sabotinov has outstanding scientific achievements in the fields of quantum electronics, laser physics, laser technology, plasma physics and optics. He is the author of nearly 400 scientific articles and 30 protected copyright certificates and patents at home and abroad. Scientists from BAS with the Pythagoras Prize

Five scientists from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences received the Pythagoras Award of the Ministry of Education and Science for their contribution to science. For the first time in each category, awards were given to an established and a young scientist. In the field of natural sciences and engineering, two established scientists were awarded - Prof. Dr. Margarita Popova from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) and Prof. DSc Ivo Grabchev from SU “St. Kliment Ohridski". Scientific conference on the occasion of the 110th birth anniversary of Prof. Zhivko Stalev and 100th anniversary of the birth of Prof. Vitali Tadzher

The newly elected members of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members received their diplomas

The diplomas of the new members of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (AACM) were awarded at an official ceremony held in “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall. Twenty academicians and 14 corresponding members were elected in a competition at the end of last year. The President of BAS met with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan

The President of BAS Prof. Julian Revalski, Full Member of the Academy, met with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Bulgaria H.E. Hussein Husseinov. At the meeting, the relations between BAS and the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences and the State University of Baku were discussed. It was pointed out that the Covid-19 pandemic has to some extent hampered joint scientific activities but they are expected to intensify again. Opportunities were explored for a meeting between the Heads of the two Academies by the end of 2022.
