Highlights from the upcoming exhibition “Bulgarian Archaeology 2024” presented by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum

Finds from two of the most emblematic archaeological sites in 2024: the ancient city of Heraclea Sintica near the locality of Rupite and Mound 1 in the village of Kapitan Petko Voyvoda, Topolovgrad municipality, were presented to journalists by the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (NAIM at BAS) at a press conference. The "Bulgarian Archaeology" exhibition is traditionally organized by NAIM-BAS on the occasion of the Day of the Archaeologist on February 14 and presents the best of the previous archaeological season. This year, together with NAIM-BAS, 19 other Bulgarian historical and archaeological museums are presenting their objects. “Animated Heritage” Annual Awards of the Institute of Art Studies – BAS for 2024

The film director and screenwriter Prof. Georgi Djulgerov and artist Alzek Misheff are the winners of the awards The Institute of Art Studies at BAS presented its annual Animated Heritage Awards for a special contribution to the creative interpretation of the traditions and values of Bulgarian and world cultural heritage in a contemporary work of art. In the Screen Arts category, Prof. Georgi Djulgerov, film director and screenwriter, on the occasion of his 80th anniversary, and in the "Fine Arts" category the artist Alzek Misheff for his overall work were distinguished. The official award ceremony was preceded by a public presentation of the latest publications and achievements of the Institute's scientists. “Early Neolithic settlement Slatina-Sofia” mural

Голямоформатният стенопис „Раннонеолитно селище Слатина-София (6100 – 5500 г. пр. Хр.)  беше представен днес пред публика. Нарисуван е от художниците Иван Монев и Мария Матовска върху северната фасада на сградата на 93-то средно училище „Александър Теодоров-Балан“ на столичната улица „Гео Милев“ №32. The large-format mural "Early Neolithic settlement Slatina-Sofia (6100 - 5500 BC)” has been presented to the public today. It was painted by the artists Ivan Monev and Maria Matovska on the northern facade of the building of the 93rd secondary school "Alexander Theodorov-Balan" on the capital's Geo Milev Street № 32. It was executed as part of the "Early Neolithic Settlement Slatina-Sofia: at the Dawn of European Civilization"  project of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum of BAS funded by the Culture Program [...]

Prof. Wanda Smochowska-Petrova Prize – 2024

On 15 November 2024, the Polish Institute in Sofia hosted the award ceremony of the “Prof. Wanda Smochowska-Petrova" Prize, organized by the Institute of Literature at BAS and the Polish Institute in Sofia. Established in 2017, the award was presented for the second time in connection with Poland's Independence Day - 11 November. Prof. Dr. Wanda Smochowska-Petrova (1919-2011) was a Polish woman who emigrated to Bulgaria during World War II. She devoted more than 60 years of her creative career to the study of Bulgarian literature, the links between the two cultures in the Bulgarian National Revival period and translated into Bulgarian classic works by Polish writers. Her merits to Bulgarian humanities and in strengthening Bulgarian-Polish cultural relations were presented by Prof. Margreta Grigorova. In [...]

“Foreign Humanities studying Bulgaria and the Bulgarians” international scientific conference

The Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and the Bulgarian-Hungarian Historical Commission organized an international scientific conference "Foreign Humanities Studying Bulgaria and the Bulgarians" which took place from 11 to 13 November. The initiative was carried out in the framework of the "Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad" National Scientific Programme funded by the Ministry of Education and Science. The moderator was Prof. Penka Peykovska. The theme of the conference attracted 40 scholars from academic and university centres in ten European countries. Foreign fellows of the Institute under the Programme also presented the results of their research in our country. “Western Bulgarian Outlands – History and Prospects” scientific conference

  On November 8, 2024, the date on which the Western Bulgarian Outlands Day is celebrated, the Institute for Historical Studies at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences organized the scientific conference "Western Bulgarian Outlands - History and Prospects". The forum was held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Organization of Refugees from the Western Outlands, an event that united the Bulgarians who had left their homelands after the implementation of the provisions of the Treaty of Neuilly. The conference held its four sessions in the building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
