Seventeenth Spring Seminar of Doctoral Students and Young Scientists “Interdisciplinary Chemistry”

The seventeenth Spring Seminar of PhD students and young scientists from BAS institutes was held from 23 to 25 April in the hall of the "Mechatronics and Clean Technologies" National Center of Excellence, Geo Milev Campus. PhD students, young scientists and postdocs from eight institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences: IOCCPC, IOMT, IEES, IP, ISSP, IE, IMicB and IGIC, and from two universities: UCTM-Sofia and MU-Sofia participated. The papers of the participants covered topical areas of science and provoked lively discussions. 50 years since the invention of the copper bromide vapour laser in Bulgaria

Jubilee Scientific Session "From the Idea to the Industrial Product" Fifty years since the development of the copper bromide vapour laser by Acad. Nikola Sabotinov were celebrated at a scientific session at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Acad. Nikola Sabotinov's idea of creating a low-temperature copper laser in Bulgaria was realized in 1974 when under his leadership at the Institute of Solid State Physics (ISSP) a copper bromide vapour laser was launched and recognized as the invention of the year in 1979. In order to improve its characteristics, a number of theoretical and experimental studies had been carried out, and the effect of hydrogen was discovered. The Bulgarian Academy of Sciences hosted the opening ceremony of the National Round of the XX National Olympiad in Geography and Economics

  The 20th edition of the National Round of the Geography and Economics Olympiad was held on 19-21 April 2024. The opening ceremony was hosted by the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Guests of the event were Mrs. Emilia Lazarova, Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Corr. Memb. Fifth Interdisciplinary Doctoral Forum with International Participation

Fifth Interdisciplinary Doctoral Forum with International Participation, organized by the PhD Training Center of BAS (TC-BAS) and the Career Center at TC-BAS was held from 16 to 19 April 2024 in Park Hotel Kyustendil, Kyustendil, Bulgaria. The Forum is held under the sign of the 155th anniversary of the founding of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and with the support of the National Scientific Programme "Development and Promotion of Bulgarian Studies Abroad" funded by the Ministry of Education and Science. SRTI celebrates the International Aviation and Cosmonautics Day

The Space Research and Technology Institute (SRTI) of BAS is organizing today an Open Day on the occasion of the International Day of Aviation and Cosmonautics. The Director, Prof. Georgi Zhelev, welcomed scientists and guests and recalled Bulgaria's successes as a space-faring country. In 2024 we celebrate the 45th anniversary of the flight of the first Bulgarian cosmonaut Georgi Ivanov. Bulgaria is already part of NASA's Artemis programme which will most likely become a stepping stone for a flight to Mars, Prof. Zhelev said and added that our country's participation could ensure the flight of a third Bulgarian cosmonaut.
