The “Prof. Lyubomir Andreychin” Institute for Bulgarian Language at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences is celebrating 83 years since its foundation with a two-day international annual conference which is taking place in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS. The Director of the Institute for Bulgarian Language Prof. Svetla Koeva opened the event and stressed that the forum brought together the cream of researchers who focused their efforts on the Bulgarian language. “We report at the conference the results we have achieved from our joint work during the year,” Prof. Koeva said.

The traditional annual awards of the Institute were presented during the official opening. The first prize “Book of the Year” was awarded to the authors of the work „Българските лични имена днес“ (Bulgarian Personal Names Today): Prof. Dr. Anna Choleva, Asst. Prof. Nadezhda Dancheva, Dr. Gergana Petkova and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maya Vlahova. The award “Golden Badge for Merits in the Development of the Institute for Bulgarian Language” was given to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hristina Deykova.

Prof. Dr. Luchia Antonova was awarded the “Honorary Plaquette for Merits to the Development of the Institute for Bulgarian Language”. The prizes are awarded by decision of the Scientific Council of the Institute.

The Vice-President of BAS Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, directors of scientific institutes and universities attended the official opening. Over 80 researchers from Bulgaria, Greece, Italy, Poland, Russia and Ukraine are participating in the forum. Leading Bulgarian scholars will give plenary presentations – Mariola Walczak-Mikołajczakowa (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznan, Poland), Petar Sotirow (Maria Curie-Sklodowska University, Lublin, Poland), Christina Markou (Democritus University of Thrace, Komotini, Greece), Jakub Banasiak (Institute of Slavic Studies, Polish Academy of Sciences, Poland).

The IBL-BAS International Conference has established itself as a prestigious forum for the presentation of the most recent achievements and trends in the field of Bulgarian language research in Bulgaria and worldwide, as well as the scientific successes of the nine departments of the Institute, including the results of the work on national and international projects and cooperation with Bulgarian and foreign research centers.
