Four hundred and thirty are the patents and utility models of the scientific units of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences in the last five years. These data were presented by the Vice-President of BAS Prof. Shtelian Shterionov at a conference on innovative education and professions of the future, organized by the Higher School of Telecommunications and Posts on May 29. During the forum, he made a presentation on “Bridge between science, innovations and modern education” and presented some of the successful innovations of the BAS institutes implemented in practice. “BAS participates in the largest European and global platform for international cooperation and technology transfer Enterprise Europe Network in searching and finding project and business partners – over 600 partners from around the world,” Prof. Shterionov said. Regarding the rapid technological development of innovation and artificial intelligence and their relationship with education, the Vice-President outlined as a problem the training of personnel in this field, the regulation of their use and the ethical dimension of their application.

The President of the National Assembly Assoc. Prof. Nataliya Kiselova, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport and Communications Grozdan Karadjov, Minister of Education and Science Krasimir Valchev, Rector of the Higher School of Telecommunications and Posts Prof. Miglena Temelkova, representatives of business and academia and partners participated in the conference. They discussed topics related to modern education and the strategic development of human capital in Bulgaria. Among them were: how digitalization is transforming the learning process and the business environment; what skills will be of key importance in the next five to ten years; how business can get involved in building practically ready staff; what are the role and responsibility of the state in this transformation, etc.
