MUSICORUM VIA has ended the academic year 2024-2025 at BAS

The season of our new initiative “MUSICORUM VIA. Two academies – one stage” ended yesterday with a concert of PhD students from the “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” National Music Academy in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS-Administration. This is the tenth concert in the series of performances of NMA students and lecturers to the academic community and the citizens of the capital. Works by J. С. Bach, Huang Tzu, J. Brahms, Giuseppe Verdi, P. Vladigerov, D. Arnaudov, etc. were presented. The concert featured doctoral student instrumentalists (piano, double bass, flute, clarinet) and singers. Particularly impressive were the performances of Chinese tenor Sima Chi who interpreted European arias and Chinese folklore equally well. The audience was also able to hear countertenor Dimitar Arnaudov perform the witch’s aria from the Hansel and Gretel opera, and regular listeners of the concerts were able to make comparisons with the opuses already performed by another NMA countertenor, Yordan Petev. This concert of young talents ended with a round of applause as well, closing the second semester of the 2024-2025 academic year for “Prof. Pancho Vladigerov” NMA. They thanked the BAS management for hosting this initiative, stressing that with it “the students and teachers have found their second creative home”.

MUSICORUM VIA was launched on April 7 this year and before the summer vacation of the students it managed to realize ten concerts in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS-Administration. At these concerts, mainly graduates of the Vocal and Instrumental Faculty of NMA were presented with repertoire mainly from the field of classical music (opera, operetta from the Baroque era to the twentieth century). The teachers offered performances by their students at various stages of their preparation for professional careers, presenting a rich palette of genres and individual ranges. The performers included both Bulgarians and foreigners, among whom citizens of the People’s Republic of China predominated. At all the concerts, the students and their teachers were supported by their loyal audiences but they also aroused the interest of certain representatives of the Assembly of Academicians and Corresponding Members, BAS employees, and citizens of the capital. Admission to the performances was free and at least a hundred people attended each of the concerts, a litmus test of the initiative’s success.

MUSICORUM VIA continues in the academic year 2025-2026, starting at 6 pm on Monday, September 15, in the “Prof. Marin Drinov” Hall of BAS-Administration.
