The Governing Council of BAS awarded the Director General of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Kiril Valchev with the distinction “For Correct and Rich Bulgarian Language in Journalism.” The President of the Academy, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, presented the award at a ceremony held today at BAS.

The award was announced during the celebration of the National Enlighteners Day at the Academy, and you were honored after a preliminary selection by the Governing Council, Corr. Memb. Slavcheva said. One of the missions of BAS is to promote correct and rich Bulgarian speech. That is why we are honoring you with this award – with the idea that you will continue to support Bulgarian culture, Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, Vice-President of BAS who also attended the ceremony said. We would like you and your colleagues to carry the banner of Bulgarian knowledge high and bring us glory around the world, he added.

This is not only a personal recognition but also a recognition for all my colleagues at BTA – for their correct use of the Bulgarian language, BTA Director General Kiril Valchev said. He recalled that the history of BTA had begun at BAS where the Agency had been located. During the award ceremony, Kiril Valchev pointed out that BAS was one of the examples of continuity combined with continuous renewal and shared his inspiration from Academician Aleksandar Teodorov-Balan. At BTA, we always try to use Bulgarian words instead of foreign ones whenever possible, following Balan’s example, he added.

The BAS Governing Council’s awards for journalists are presented annually in several categories.
