The President of BAS, Corr. Memb. Evelina Slavcheva, met with the Ambassador of Japan, H.E. Chikahisa Sumi, today at the Academy. Corr. Memb. Slavcheva opened the meeting with a presentation of BAS, introducing the guest to its history, structure, scientific institutes, and main areas of research activity.

H.E. Chikahisa Sumi noted the traditionally good relations between Bulgarian and Japanese scientists and highlighted the successful joint work carried out through a number of scientific and cultural events organized in partnership with BAS. Corresponding Member Slavcheva paid special attention to the successful partnership between the Institute of Balkan Studies with the Prof. Alexander Fol Center for Thracology at BAS with the Faculty of Foreign Studies at Osaka University. She emphasized the potential for expanding this cooperation and developing new joint scientific initiatives. In this context, the possibilities for scientific exchange of doctoral students between Bulgaria and Japan were also discussed.

The meeting was attended by the Vice-President of BAS Corr. Memb. Evdokia Pasheva, and the Cultural Attaché at the Embassy, Kento Muraki.
