An exhibition by Ivailo Kamenov entitled “Transfigurations” opened last night at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition is part of the “BAS Presents” initiative and includes paintings (oil, watercolor, and pastel) and bronze reliefs.

“The themes of Ivailo Kamenov’s work are always related to Orthodox Christianity but they also look to the Far East and always with undisguised humanism. It is precisely this love for humanity that is the distinctive feature of this artist. In the artist’s world, there are people, and even the colorful spots and impressions are somehow human,” said Prof. Emmanuel Moutafov, Vice-President of BAS, in his speech at the opening of the exhibition. He introduced the curator of the exhibition, Assoc. Prof. Maria Miteva from the Institute of Art Studies, who, together with the author, selected works that are indicative of his creativity.

“Art has accompanied the life of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences since its inception, so contemporary art has always been part of the Academy,” said Assoc. Prof. Miteva, recalling that BAS owned a collection of classical Bulgarian art.

The “Transfigurations” exhibition can be viewed at BAS until March 20.
