Awards for outstanding research and publication achievements have been presented to doctoral students at the Institute of Information and Communication Technologies of BAS (IICT) during a ceremony held today. This is the first time such an award has been established with the aim of encouraging and recognizing young researchers at the institute. The chair of the awards committee, Prof. Stanislav Harizanov, expressed his gratitude to the doctoral students who participated in the competition and their academic advisors.
With best wishes for continued success in science, the awards were presented by Corresponding Member Margenov to:
Miryana Raykovska, supervised by Prof. Ivan Georgiev, for her work on the creation of digital twins using high-resolution microstructural models obtained through industrial computed tomography. The applications of the results obtained are in the fields of biomechanical modeling, the study of composite and porous materials, dentistry, and tissue engineering. During the reporting period, she published 8 articles with an Impact Factor (IF), one of which in Q1; she has 31 independent citations in Scopus and 6 presentations at international scientific conferences.
Georgi Rusev, supervised by Prof. Petia Koprinkova-Hristova, on extracting features from real-world measurements of brain activity to improve the decoding of motor intent of the patient. He has developed an effective method for combining the frequency characteristics of signals extracted via wavelet transformation using a Morlet function. This method significantly improves the accuracy of the developed neuromorphic decoder. He has published 2 articles with an impact factor in Q1 journals, has 1 independent citation in Scopus, 1 presentation at an international scientific forum, and is a participant in the international NEMO-BMI project led by Petia Koprinkova.
The Scientific Secretary, Prof. Vera Angelova, highlighted the significance of these awards, which marked the beginning of a tradition – to recognize and encourage doctoral students who, through their research achievements, publication activity and professional dedication, contribute to establishing the Institute as a leading research center making a significant contribution in the field of information and communication technologies.
Miryana Raykovska and Georgi Rusev presented their scientific achievements to those attending the ceremony.
