The President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Corresponding Member Evelina Slavcheva, took part in the 2026 mid-term meeting of the European Science Advisers Forum (ESAF) which was held on June 10–11 in Vienna, Austria. The event was hosted by the Austrian Academy of Sciences.
The meeting addressed key topics related to providing scientific expertise to political bodies and institutions on issues of public importance (“science-for-policy”), with a focus on collaboration in the areas of security and science policy. The idea of creating a European code of ethics for scientific advisory bodies on policy and society was presented, intended to serve as a common European standard.
The European Science Advisers Forum (ESAF) is an informal network of scientists and experts who advise their governments or assist in providing scientific expertise to them. Its mission is to promote the use of scientific expertise in the legislative, executive, and judicial processes of ESAF member states.
