Medical and biological research at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences has numerous applications in the field of medicine and healthcare. They are aimed at clarifying the biological basics of health, reproductive processes, growth and aging, the causes and development of socially significant diseases.

Studies in cellular and molecular biology, microbiology, virology and immunology are related to the development of methods for diagnosis, treatment and prophylaxis to improve the health status and quality of life of humans. Biomedical, biotechnological, biopharmaceutical approaches and products for personalized drug treatments are developed to preserve and enhance the physical and intellectual abilities of humans.

Methods for microbial biosynthesis and biotechnology for medicine, food industry and bioenergetics are created and bioengineering methods and devices are developed which are applied in different branches of the clinic – cardiology, oncology, neurology, laryngology, emergency medicine, etc.
