Scientists from the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry with a scientific publication in one of the most prestigious journals in the field of chemistry

A team of Bulgarian scientists from the Institute of General and Inorganic Chemistry of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences published a review article in the prestigious journal Chemical Reviews. The journal is published by the American Chemical Society and is one of the most renowned journals which tops the rankings in the field of chemistry. For 2019, the impact factor of the journal is 52,758.

Prof. Dr. Dimitar Panayotov, Prof. Dr. Mihail Mihaylov, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elena Ivanova, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kristina Chakarova, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stanislava Andonova and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nikola Drenchev. The review focuses on studying the interaction of metal-organic structures (MOFs) with various gas molecules (probe molecules and target molecules, such as CO₂ and H₂) by vibrational spectroscopy.

Metal-organic structures are a relatively new class of chemical compounds with properties that can be fine-tuned and with potential application in various fields, such as adsorption, catalysis, sensory, biochemistry and others. The probe molecules are used to describe the materials in detail while the target molecules are related to green chemistry, i.e. to environmental protection (hydrogen storage, CO₂ separation).

The article is a result of the advanced high-quality scientific research of the team and was prepared within the National Scientific Program “Low Carbon Energy for Transport and Domestic Use – EPLUS“, funded by the Ministry of Education and Science.
