On 15 May 2022, in the building of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences was opened the International Jubilee Conference of the Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreichin”, dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Institute. Official guests were the Vice President of the Republic of Bulgaria Mrs. Iliana Iotova, His Excellency Mr. Maciej Szymański, Ambassador of the Republic of Poland to Bulgaria. Alsao present were Corr. Mem.  Evdokia Pasheva, Vice-President of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elka Traykova, Scientific Secretary of Division “Cultural and Historical Heritage and National Identity”, Directors of Institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, the Director of “Az-Buki” National Publishing House for Education and Science, representatives of the Local Office of DG “Translation” of the European Commission as well as representatives of universities in Bulgaria.

The Institute for Bulgarian Language was awarded the golden honorary plaque of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and a plaque of “Paisii Hilendarski” University of Plovdiv.

During the opening ceremony of the conference, the annual awards of the Institute for Bulgarian Language were presented.

Corr. Mem. Prof. DSc Maria Popova was awarded with the Prize for Outstanding Services to the Development of Bulgarian Linguistics and the Institute for Bulgarian Language. The newly established in connection with the 80th anniversary of the Institute Award for Merits to the Development of the Institute for Bulgarian Language was awarded to former directors of the Institute: Corr. Mem. Todor Boyadzhiev, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stoyan Zherev, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yulia Baltova and Prof. DSc. Vasil Raynov. The Book of the Year Award was given to Prof. Dr. Lucia Antonova-Vasileva for her work “The Speech of the Bulgarians in Rakhovets, Prizren”. The Young Scientist Award was given to Assist. Prof. Dr. Valentina Stefanova Stefanova from the Department of Computational Linguistics. For services to the development of Bulgarian linguistic science and the Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreichin”, a Golden Badge was awarded to former and current members of the Institute. Foreign scholars were also awarded the Golden Badge for their significant contribution to the development and popularization of Bulgarian linguistic research.

During the conference, the winners of the Fourth National Competition in Computational Linguistics for pupils from grades 5 to 11 were also awarded. They were congratulated by Mr. Bozhidar Bozhanov, Minister of e-Government.

The International Jubilee Conference of the Institute for Bulgarian Language “Prof. Lyubomir Andreichin” continues until May 17 in the Institute for Bulgarian Language and the House of Scientists.
